What does a radio, a salt-shaker, a toothbrush, shoes and a clock all have in common?

They can all be used to tell the story of Easter!

Taking its cue from Neil MacGregor’s ‘History of the World in 100 Objects’, At Home in Lent takes a look at everyday objects all around you, and uses them to share a message of finding God wherever you are. 46 everyday objects, to be precise.

Gordon Giles draws from objects such as bathroom-scales and alarm-clocks spiritual lessons that tie into the story of Easter, as well as taking a look at the rhythms of daily life and faith that we all follow along to. Nothing is too humdrum, to beige or banal to become an inspiring lesson.

At Home in Lent also follows the seven Rs of Lent:

  • regret
  • repentance
  • resolution
  • recognition
  • reconciliation
  • renewal
  • resurrection.

Helping you see the spiritual lessons all around you, At Home in Lent is a great devotional for transforming how you see the rhythms of life all around you.

Here is an original way of approaching Lent, one that will encourage you to consider your own faith journey in the light of the Easter story.

Inspired by Ian McGregor's Radio 4 programme, 'The History of the World in 100 Objects', Gordon Giles spends each week in a different room gleaning spiritual lessons from everyday household objects. As a result, you might discover that finding God in the normal pattern of life - even in the mundane - transforms how you approach each day.

Running as a thread through it all are the seven Rs of Lent:

  • regret
  • repentance
  • resolution
  • recognition
  • reconciliation
  • renewal
  • resurrection.

Each day the reader is invited to consider a new item in their home ; consider its history and view it from a spiritual perspective. If you miss a day it doesn't matter. A refreshing devotional that is practical and has enabled me to focus on God as Easter has approached and will have a long lasting impact on how I view the objects in my life. A real blessing and I will read it again next year to refresh my perspective again !
