The English Standard Version is a literal translation from the original Bible texts, firmly rooted in the tradition of Tyndale and King James but without their archaic language.

First published in 2001, it is closest in style to the Revised Standard Version and is well suited to public reading and memorisation. The first Cambridge ESV Bibles are presented in the slimline Pitt Minion format. Like Cambridge's Pitt Minion Bibles in other translations, they are characterized by an elegant text design using a font that is compact, yet clear and easy to read.

This Bible has black-letter text throughout and includes cross-references, a concordance and maps. It features India paper with art-gilt edges and like all Cambridge Bibles is Smyth-sewn. It is bound in dark brown goatskin leather.

    This is a beautiful edition of the bible. These editions are world-renowned and for very good reason, and it is possible to buy various versions of the bible in the Pitt Minion format. I chose the brown goatskin version of the ESV, and for those interested the text is "ESV Text Edition: 2011, 2016." It is also the black-letter text. For those that prefer the ESV red-letter text (the words of Christ printed in red) then you would choose the black goatskin version. The binding is very soft and pliable. The bible stays open when you lay it down. Table of weights and measures. Extensive referencing system. Concordance. 15 maps, in colour, covering the Old Testament and New Testament. Two ribbon markers. There is also some room at the back to put notes etc. This bible is very much a pleasure to hold and to use and I thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

    The description (and ISBN) appear to be for the black letter edition, but the image shows a cover of a red letter bible. Which is it?
