I often say that if you want to be prepared for life as stranded on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific for a number of years this is the Bible to bring along to keep you busy! If you start to seriously study the cross references you will get a completely fresh perspective of the Bible. You will understand how our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ expressed himself in Scripture and you will get a glimpse of how the Jews would understand his words. You will understand the deeper meaning of Jesus calming the waves as you find this act to be an attribute of God Himself in Psalms ... You will be able to test the validity of claims like "Paul invented Christianity" by checking the consistency of f.i. the Letter to the Romans with the rest of Scripture and you will find Peter's endorsement of Paul's letters as Scripture. To actively use the cross references you will find the large print edition the best. Being the best of my many Bibles it is also the one that is being worn out. So you may consider buying two!

This is a good quality reference Bible, with print large enough for most ageing eyes. There is little bleed-through on pages. There are four integral ribbons, and some maps with readable print. Words in the KJV which might be less familiar to some modern readers are glossed in the margin. Each chapter is preceded by a short summary. Two appendices give a table of weights and measures, and guidance on pronunciation of proper names etc. The book is quite heavy. That partly reflects the paper quality - but is also inevitable for a larger print reference Bible. I find it comfortable to read resting on my lap, partly supported by one hand.
