CEV Bibles

  • The CEV Bible is a highly readble, modern Bible translation for the modern English Speaker. 

    The American Bible Society, who also produced the Good News Bible, began the Contemporary English Version in 1985 thanks to modern literary research by Barclay Newman. Studying speech patterns in magazines, newspapers, books, and TV he discovered how our language was being spoken, read, and heard. In 1995 the Full CEV Bible was released, with the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books following in 1999.

    Although many believe the CEV to be a revision of the GNB, it is an entirely new translation which was aimed at a lower reading age for those with no comprehension of ‘biblical language’.

    This makes the CEV an ideal initial Bible for new Christians, an excellent Children’s Bible, and a friendly version for those who struggle with complex sentences and long words (dyslexic or foreign students). Another version to consider would be the New International Readers Version, a simpler version of the NIV Bible.
