Q: What do you do with an author who makes a real connection with romantic fiction fans but whose books don’t contain foul language or sex scenes? A: Give her a multi-book contract, publish her more than 40 faith based novels and watch as 15 million copies a year take her to number 1 on best seller lists.
Born in 1963, best selling author Karen Kingsbury worked for the Los Angeles Daily News as a sports author. Here first novel ‘Where Yesterday Lives’ was based on a murder story she covered for the press.
Dismayed by the downward spiral of emotion necessary in true crime fiction, Karen turned to more positive and uplifting themes accessible through romantic fiction. With Karen’s publishers unwilling to accept her new, affirming writing style a new direction was necessary.
Karen Kingsbury discovered her calling to write Christian romantic fiction after reading a book by another best selling author of Christian fiction, Francine Rivers. As well as Christian fiction, Karen Kingsbury’s work includes lyrics for songs by Christian music artists Gary Baker and Ritchie McDonald.
Unable to have any more children biologically her own, Karen Kingsbury and her husband Don adopted three children from Haiti making their family upto six. Through her ‘One Chance Foundation’ Karen gives her readers the opportunity to support Christian adoption ministries and support families seeking to adopt.
The success of many books including Unlocked, Leaving and the ‘Baxter’ and ‘Redemption’ series lead to her Life Changing Fiction trade mark. Her book ‘Like Dandelion Dust’ - dealing with the hard issues around adoption, is now a feature film available on DVD.
Her latest book ‘Longing’ - released on 22 November 2011, is the third in her Baily Flanigan Series.
