Review: Unexpected - Christine Caine

Anna Hockley - Eden Christian Books Specialist

You have probably heard of Christine Caine, a well-known author and speaker often connected to her involvement in Hillsong. But she’s also the founder of A21 an anti-trafficking charity, a life-changing body working to bring freedom and healing for those who find themselves caught in human-trafficking. Caine’s achievements and drive will not fail to impress, this lady has really done A LOT!

She’s a charismatic speaker and brilliant communicator and this is exactly what comes across in her book.

Unexpected is packed full of personal testimony, she has walked through some incredibly difficult and uncertain times so it feels like a very genuine and inspiring book as she talks you through God’s presence even in times of unexpected events. Caine is well-versed in her biblical teaching and her nuggets of wisdom from Scripture run throughout - so don’t think this is just personal testimony, there’s some really meaty stuff in there too!

Each chapter looks at a different life event that may come as “unexpected”, whether it’s not being where you thought you’d be in life whether it’s marriage or family, illness including Caine’s own story of the unexpected discovery of her cancer back in 2014.

Unexpected - Christine Caine

"I was blindsided by a surprise attack, but God was not. I felt many emotions and very vulnerable, but I could also feel God's presence with me in a palpable way. This was going to be yet another chance for me to practice what I so often preached to others." (source)

The stories are heartfelt and each is accompanied words of encouragement that you’re not walking this alone. Caine tells stories from different people that she’s encountered through her ministries and it covers a good breadth of ages and situations.

I found this book helpful and inspiring, the encouragement that God is using these life challenges to help you grow in your faith. The Bible is packed full of helps but sometimes it can be difficult to know where to look, Christine is great at pulling these relevant passages out and applying them to situations we may face today.

Even if you’re not currently facing an “unexpected” challenge at the moment you won’t fail to be moved by this book, and let’s be honest life is full of twists and turns, why not equip yourself to face and embrace what may come in the future.

Unexpected is due for release on 1st June and is available for pre-order from Eden.co.uk
