What Are The Resurrection Eggs?

Laura White - Eden Children's Resources Specialist

What are resurrection eggs?

Easter is a special time for many people, as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ. One way to help children understand and enjoy the true meaning of Easter is using ‘Resurrection Eggs’.

But what exactly are Resurrection Eggs, and how can they be used to teach kids about Easter? Let’s take a look!

What Are Resurrection Eggs?

Resurrection Eggs are a set of 12 colourful plastic eggs, each filled with a small object that represents a part of the Easter story. These objects help tell the story of Jesus’ life, His journey to the cross, and His resurrection. Each egg helps children learn about the key events that happened during this time in a fun and easy way.

The set comes with a colourful booklet which explains the meaning of the objects inside the eggs.

How to Use Resurrection Eggs as a Family

Using Resurrection Eggs is simple and fun. Here’s how to use them in your Easter celebrations:

  1. Prepare for the Countdown: Resurrection Eggs are usually used in the days leading up to Easter. You could start on Palm Sunday and open one or two eggs each day throughout Holy week. Alternatively, the eggs could be opened all at once and the story can be explored as one big picture.
  2. Open One Egg & Read the Accompanying Story: Alongside each egg, there’s a short story in the illustrated booklet which explains what each object means. Read the story together to help your children understand the importance of the object within the Easter story. Each page includes a suggestion for further discussion to help you explore the story further.
  3. Talk About the Meaning: After opening each egg and reading the story, take time to talk about what happened. This is a great time for children to ask questions and learn more about the events that led up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. It’s a chance to reflect on how these events show God’s love for us.
  4. Make It a Tradition: Resurrection Eggs are ideal for reusing every Easter. Over the years, they will become a treasured family tradition as the countdown to Easter begins.
  5. Add Fun Activities: To make Resurrection Eggs even more exciting, you could hide the eggs around the house and let the kids go on an Easter egg hunt. You can also add songs, crafts, or prayers to help your family focus on the meaning of Easter.

Why Use Resurrection Eggs?

Resurrection Eggs are a great way to teach children about Easter in a fun and interactive way. The eggs help bring the story to life by letting kids hold and look at objects that remind them of the key events in Jesus' life. The hands-on experience helps children connect with the story and remember what Easter is really about.

Resurrection Eggs make learning about Easter both exciting and meaningful. They help kids understand that Easter is not only about bunnies and chocolate, but, more importantly, the incredible love and sacrifice of Jesus.

Resurrection Eggs are available to buy at Eden this Easter.
