The Declaration of Independence lists "the pursuit of happiness" as one of our fundamental rights. But if we don't even know what happiness looks like, every pursuit of it will end in frustration.

In one of his most famous lessons, Jesus defined true happiness. He made eight surprising statements, claiming that a "blessed" life was only available to those such as "the poor in spirit," "the meek," and "those who mourn."

For centuries, these eight statements have been called the "Beatitudes."
