It is an extraordinary story. An unknown young man of thirty abandons his job and launches into a new ‘career’ as travelling preacher and healer. Immensely popular with the general public, he quickly falls foul of the religious leaders of his day and then the political authorities. Just three years later he was dead, executed as a dangerous criminal.
End of story? Just the opposite!
Three days later, his body had disappeared from his grave. That was only the beginning of the story of which you, the reader, are now part.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

David Pawson writes as he preaches – it is conversational, punchy and full of insightful nuggets. The book is just what it says on the label – it’s a walk through Mark and just as Mark’s Gospel has a sense of movement so does Pawson’s observations on it. The frequent “catchy phrases” that are a hallmark of this author’s style –“Here are two baptisms…one is a physical one, the other spiritual, one is an outward thing, the other is an inward thing, one deals with your past, the other with your future, one is connected to pardon the other is connected to power…” will either endear you or frustrate you – but they generally help the memory. If I have a disappointment - it is the total lack of references – traditions or cultural practices are unpacked with no mention of the source material; so the Bible student cannot verify, challenge or develop and so is not helped. Despite that, it’s a useful contribution to the understanding of the gospel.
