Calculating the number of the beast, and beyond.You are given 666 as a number of kilometers and told that it is equivalent to a number of miles. If instructed to calculate the number of miles, would you ignore those instructions and instead try to figure out how a number of kilometers came to be 666 in the first place? Of course not. Yet, that is standard procedure for trying to solve the riddle of Revelation 13:18."This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is (equivalent to) the number of a man. That number (of a man) is 666." It is given that 666 is the number of a man, and equivalent to the number of the beast. Having been asked to calculate the number of the beast, the entire world has instead spent the last 2000 years trying to figure out how the number of a man came to be 666 in the first place. If we stubbornly persist with that approach, another 2000 years will pass without solving the riddle.666 kilometers is not equivalent to 666 miles. Likewise, given that the number of a man is 666, the equivalent number of the beast cannot also be 666. The number of the beast, just like the number of miles, needs to be calculated using the appropriate formula.
