Matthew's Gospel was written for a largely Jewish group to convince them that Jesus was the hoped-for Messiah, and so he interprets Jesus as someone who relives the experience of Israel. For Matthew, everything about Jesus is prophesied in the Old Testament.
This book is a commentary on the gospel according to Mathew. Mathew was one of the disciples of Jesus. He was a tax collector by profession. But He belonged to the priestly clan. After Mathew resigned from his good tax collector's position, he followed Jesus for three years without any salary or income. And after the death of Jesus, he did not go back to his old profession nor regretted that he made a mistake in losing his job.
