Profound, Expository, Refreshing and Humbling
Written by divine guidance and inspiration, Truth and Doubt: A Study of Matthew 11, is an outstanding masterpiece for Christian leaders, believers and any who has struggle with tough questions about Christian faith and life. The use of historic facts combined with scriptural references made this book an amazing Bible study material. This book in particular answered the following questions for me:
Jesus' paradoxical statement that the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than John the Baptist after saying that he is the greatest among the prophet that came before him.
The historical fact about the Samaria and Jewish differences and how they lead up to God's outreach for everyone.
The Pharisees, Sadducees and the Scribe dogmatism and unbending approach to scriptural injunctions as inspired by the Holy Spirit including reason for their relentless effort to sideline Jesus Christ while refusing to humble themselves.
John the Baptist mental struggle with the apprehension of the reason for Jesus' supposedly lack of immediate action toward his incarceration.
The justification of Jesus' anger towards people doing business inside the Temple.
Furthermore, many questions that theologians and regular people of faith are often in contest with when they talk to non-believers are answered in a clear, straightforward and satisfactory manner; questions such as virgin birth, trinity, the destruction and rebuilding of the temple, Jesus declaration of His power to forgive sin, His death, resurrection and position as our High Priest and many more. The use of English is well structured and understandable. The correlation of Old and New Testament in this study material is extraordinary. I recommend it for theologians, pastors, church leaders, Christians and people interested in learning about Jesus life, ministry and the salvation that He brings.
It is OK for a believer to doubt! It is the way they handle doubt that matters, and that is dependent not only on the strength of the individual's trust and faith in God, but their available support and willingness to think things through. John the Baptist was God's appointed messenger announcing the imminent arrival of the Messiah to Israel. His ministry came to an abrupt end when Herod put him in prison. It was then, when he had time to think over his six months of energetic ministry, that a niggling doubt came into John's mind, so he immediately sent disciples to Jesus to ask Him the question, "Are you the One that is to come or should we look for another?" just to make sure he had done the right thing in identifying Jesus as the Messiah whom he had never seen. The answer he received from Jesus and the way Jesus challenged the crowds around Him about what they thought of John and his message is the subject of this fascinating study of Matthew 11.
