    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Commentaries on the Bible can, and often are, very dry and heavy going. Thankfully in the last few years we have had a series of devotional commentaries that go beyond dry academia to fill the gap between these and standard study notes. The most famous one is Tom Wright’s Bible For Every One series. Here though the comparison ends as rather than being a fresh translation the Straight to the Heart series is designed to use with the Bible on your bookshelf. Getting the balance between commentating on what those who wrote the Bible are trying to say and bringing out the relevance to today is not easy, and these types of commentaries can feel dated very quickly Genesis: 60 Bite-sized insights falls into the trap of not tackling some of the harder issues, such as what the sin of Ham actually was towards his father that led to the curse on the descendants of Canaan, or the issue of who the sons of gods were who slept with the human women. Even so if you are looking for something to help you move on from daily Bible reading notes to something fresh and more in depth this book is a very good place to start.
