Notorious, a nine-week small group series, takes a look at the "bad" men and women of the Bible - there is much that we can learn from their lives. Throughout the series we look at characters who were enemies of the gospel and defied the purposes of God. Their stories are often overlooked they are the biblical 'baddies' but we can learn from their mistakes and sins. Sometimes their stories had a happy ending like Saul the persecutor who became Paul the apostle - but usually because they didn't learn from their poor choices they repeated them

throughout their lives.

Church leaders will have access to simple media-rich resources to help their congregants and small group attendees maximize the benefit of the series.

An entire congregation can journey through these stories together-with weekly sermons small group curriculum and even daily bible reading notes this is a coordinated study adventure.

Currently, it's possible to order a 'meal in a box'- all the ingredients are provided but the actual meal is created in the recipient's kitchen. This is the vision behind 'Notorious': to offer carefully prepared ready-to-use resources that are completely adaptable to any local context.

Resources in the accompanying DVD include Customizable Sermon Outlines and PowerPoint slides that can be tailored to a specific church. Additionally, Daily Bible Reading Notes will be available to individuals and Small Group members to read and reflect on the teaching.

This accompanying book to the DVD (with reflections and questions) is designed to be used on its own without the DVD as a personal study or with the DVD in a small group setting.

Jeff Lucas writes with a light touch and humour with practical life application to each study. Believing that good teaching should activate a search rather than end it this product is designed to create a greater hunger for biblical truth as each story is viewed from a different angle.

I got the dvd and books for our small group, I think, there is a lot to read, in the weekly study, and DVD while helps introduce a different medium, which breaks up the session, it isn't necessary for study, I'd have like more on DVD to help reduce the reading, and mean less of hearing my own voice. That's why I've only given 3 stars. The group are engaging and participating and it does make you think, and it is challenging. But think dvd could have contained more content. Daily read is a nice touch as means we are all studying the same during the week.

'Can we learn anything good from the bad people in the bible?' asks Jeff Lucas. Well yes, clearly he thinks that we can and in this very accessible and engaging book he explains - for example - how we can learn about authentic worship by looking at Cain, purity by looking at Potiphar's wife, and the use and abuse of power and influence by looking at Jezebel. Plus much more besides. There's a lot to think about in this book, and although it's laid out for group study it works equally well as a personal resource. Jeff writes in a very down to earth and relatable way, and each chapter is laid out in 'sessions', with key thoughts, scripture readings, a few pages 'for your consideration' and discussion questions - which again work very well for a single reader. There are then six daily readings per session. This approach, while being ideal for small groups as absolutely everything you need is there, also makes this book easy to dip in and out of. Jeff's style means this doesn't come across as a 'preachy' book, even though there is plenty of depth in the writing. While challenging the reader to examine their motives and actions, he also reminds us of our value to God, and the fact that God works with ordinary people to fulfill His kingdom purposes. I highly recommend this book, especially to small group leaders looking for resource materials which will challenge, encourage and engage.

Jeff Lucas produces some of the best material for small church groups that I have ever found...and this is the latest and best. After some excellent products on the way (e.g. "There are no strong people" or "There are no ordinary people") this is Lucas at his best and this particular product has matured into the most appetising of all small group materials. With Lucas's brand of gritty insight into awkward people and situations all mixed in with a genuinely inspired spiritual feast, this will be one set of small group meetings that you genuinely look forward to being part of. You know that this is pure Lucas - no one else would use the word "scallywags"! Buy the DVD with it to complete your journey!
