From one point of view, salvation is very simple. It can be summed up in Paul's words to the Philippian jailer: Acts 16:31; "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." At the same time, salvation is profound; it has the most pervasive and permanent impact possible on the one who experiences it. We do not, of course, have to understand all aspects of salvation before we can receive it. We may understand very little when we first trust Christ. There are some things we will not understand until we see the LORD face to face. But studying GOD's Word and trying to understand more fully the truth of our salvation greatly enriches us spiritually. The way of salvation began with atonement of Christ on the cross. The word "atonement" means reconcile a difference or being together two who have been separated. When most people think of salvation, they consider it only in terms of redemption from sin or rescue from hell. However, a careful study of salvation from a Biblical perspective will reveal that it involves different stages:1.Regeneration2.Justification3.Sanctification4.GlorificationREGENRATION: The first stage of salvation is instantaneous and is also called "conversion." It occurs immediately upon receiving Christ as our Savior. Two elements are involved in regeneration. (Read Luke 13:3 & Acts 3:19). The word repent is a translation of the Greek word which mean "a change of mind, heart and attitude." It is a change of mind with respect to sin and brings a change in lifestyle. It's an inward experience which manifests itself in an outward change in one's behavior. In repentance, from hating or just ignoring GOD to loving Him and turning one's life completely over to Him. True repentance is always accompanied by the second element of regeneration: Faith. Faith, which is always involved in repentance, is more than intellectual belief, demons believe intellectually: James 2:19; "You believe that there is one GOD. You do well. Even the demons believe, and tremble " In the New Testament, faith means a firm persuasion, a conviction based upon hearing. It is believing something to the extent that it changes your life. The kind of faith that accompanies salvation is not in a book, or a church, or a by-law; but in Jesus Christ: Acts 20:21; "Testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward GOD and faith toward our LORD Jesus Christ." Repentance must be toward the LORD Jesus Christ because He is the one who died for our sins. Remember; "Repentance is deliberate, willful, turning away from sin and following after GOD. True repentance always leads to a change in conduct or attitude."The purpose of GOD in salvation is to redeem man from his depraved state which is the result of sin. The first part of this purpose is accomplished in the instantaneous portion of salvation (regeneration).JUSTIFICATION: Justification has often been defined as meaning, "Just as if I'd never sinned." This aspect involves acquittal, but justification goes further by declaring a person to be righteous. When GOD justifies us, He does not merely forgive our sins, He sees us in Christ as having his perfect righteousness. Justification has to do with our standing before GOD and is objective. It does not make one personally righteous, but it declares him righteous in a legal sense, and brings him into right relationship with GOD. Paul stresses that we cannot be justified by the works of the Law, for "no one will be declared righteous in GOD's sight by observing the Law; rather, through the Law we become conscious of sin" Romans 3:20. Rather, we are "justified freely by GOD's grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24).The fact that we have been justified becomes clear through the evidence of our changed lives, marked by obedience to GOD and desire to do His will.
