“Hail the King” is a very different sort of commentary on the New Testament book that many find to be the hardest to understand. This verse by verse journey through Revelation is written in an easy-to-follow, conversational style, and presents it as a flowing narrative which starts with the early church and ends in eternity in new heavens and a new earth. The links to Old Testament prophecy, Jesus’ teachings, and various New Testament epistles are clearly shown, and it’s amazing to see how it all fits together in a consistent story. It’s helped me understand Revelation as never before. I also appreciated that the book doesn’t just explain, but encourages and stirs up awe and wonder at God’s grace, and repeatedly prompts one to ask, “In light of this, how should I be living my life now?” Well worth reading, especially if one can do so in a relatively short period of time, to grasp the flow of the story.
