This book meets the need for an accessible introduction to the various ways that Scripture is used in the later writings of the New Testament: Acts, Hebrews, James, 1& 2 Peter, 1, 2& 3 John, Jude and Revelation.

This is the third and final book in an informal set on the New Testament's use of the Old Testament, written by a recognized authority on the topic. The work covers several New Testament books that embody key developments in early Christian understanding of Jesus in light of the Old Testament.

This quick and reliable resource orients students to the landscape before they read more advanced literature on the use of the Old Testament in later writings of the New Testament. The book can be used as a supplemental text in undergraduate or seminary New Testament introductory classes.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

A better title would have been, How the writers of the Acts, Hebrews, the Catholic Epistles and Revelation used the Hebrew (Old Testament) scriptures. That would have been a bit long – but it is what Steve Moyise, Professor of New Testament at Chichester University, has done. It follows on from his two earlier volumes: Jesus and Scripture and Paul and Scripture – which did the same for the gospels and (some of) the Pauline epistles. The book does what it promises. What the reader will get from the book is a very good idea of the way the first Christians began to reflect on and understand the mission and ministry of Jesus in the light of the sacred writings that Jesus would have known and which would become the Hebrew Bible. It is a work of scholarship but very accessible to the person beginning NT studies or the non-specialist reader. Preachers will also find it helpful for background reading. It is, in fact, very well-written – clear and concise – and a pleasure to read.
