Why Jesus Died is an exposition of one of the most famous chapters in the Bible, Isaiah 53. Dr Kendall reflects on the nature and meaning of the Atonement.

Isaiah 53 is one of the clearest messianic messages of the Old Testament, and is often quoted in the New Testament as a prophecy of what would happen to Jesus.

Going carefully the chapter verse by verse, Dr Kendall tackles such crucial subjects as:
* What makes faith, faith?
* How does one recognise God at work?
* Who really crucified Jesus?
* Is there healing in the atonement?
* Why did Jesus die?
* What are the results of Jesus' death?
* What does the blood of Jesus do for us, and what does the blood of Jesus do for God? This chapter goes right to the heart of the Christian faith.

    No one could ever accuse RT Kendall of sugar-coating the gospel and, in this distillation of a series of sermons given by him at Westminster Chapel, he presents the bald and wonderful truths of the Bible with his usual down-to-earth economy of style. Taking Isaiah’s ability “to see seven-hundred years in advance, by the power of the Holy Spirit, what the Messiah would be like, what He would do for us and why,” RT discourses with equal clarity on the simplicity of the salvation message and the theology of substitutionary atonement – all of it plainly and understandably written. Interspersed with dry humour and examples from his own life, he explains Isaiah 53 in a way that leaves the reader in no doubt of their need for and dependence on the blood of Jesus, the revelation of the Holy Spirit and the unanswerable sovereignty of God. An interesting and instructive read for Christians at almost any level of maturity as well as a good present for those as yet unsaved but hovering on the brink.
