In Guarding the Treasure Linda Finlayson provides a fantastic book aimed at children ages 8- 12 about the ways that God’s people preserved and guarded God’s Word.

The book talks about different people who have shared with others and preserved the Word of God. Powerful King Alfred’s people came to understand the true value of God’s Word when he learnt to read. A young scholar - William Tyndale risked his life to smuggle the Word of God into the country to translate the Bible into English.

Cameron Townsend turned down the challenge to fight for his country – meaning there was one less soldier for America but one more to make sure that the people of Guatemala received Bibles.

In 1982 an aeroplane is due with some precious cargo, a young woman - Jo Shetlar peers intently towards the sky – the plane has boxes, which can be discovered in chapter one.

All the people mentioned above are all examples of Christians who have guarded the treasure of God’s word. Men and women alike have travelled far and wide living a life of danger and adventure to preserve God’s word in the Bible and to share with others.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Not a Bible story but a story about the Bible. About how the books of the Bible were brought together and have been preserved down through the ages to the present day. The care that has been taken with translation, by those skilled in languages who could put into accurate, understandable words and phrases those that were originally written in a different tongue and culture. These men faced many difficulties, at times the authorities of the countries where they lived, did not want the ordinary people to read the Bible for themselves, they wanted to be able to teach their own interpretation of God’s word without others being able to question them. There are still places in the world where Bibles are not available in the local language; there are still places where the authorities do not want the Bible to be freely available. The fact that in our country there are so many translations available to every one of us is indeed a very special gift for which we need to thank those men of old.
