The official Order of Mass and full scripture readings for every Sunday, using the new ESV-CE Lectionary Translation - in use from Advent 2024

The Hodder Sunday Missal provides the Order of Mass, along with the full text of each Sunday's scripture readings for the 3-year liturgical cycle.

Short and thoughtful introductions to every Mass help you prepare each week, and take the Gospel teaching with you into daily life after Mass.

Extended reflections also introduce each season of the church year.

From Advent 2024 onwards, Roman Catholics in England & Wales and Scotland will hear a new translation of the scripture readings at Mass, so everybody will need a new missal with the new readings. Known as the ESV-CE (English Standard Version - Catholic Edition), this is a more accurate translation of the original biblical languages and easier to proclaim.

To mark this significant occasion in the life of the Church, the Hodder Sunday Missal is now available in a choice of elegant bindings, complete with four marker ribbons to match the colours of the liturgical seasons. This Missal has been created to help you participate more deeply in the sacred mysteries, to accompany you through the rhythm of the church year, and to be a spiritual companion not only for Sunday Mass, but also as you develop your own spiritual life during the year.

It is the perfect gift for Catholics ready to renew their commitment to faith as well as those newly received into the Church.

If you have never owned a Missal before, take the opportunity now to discover how using a missal can deepen your commitment to the Catholic faith; how it can help you shape your life more closely to the cadences of the church year; how it can draw you into a more profound experience of communion with Our Lord in the sacred mysteries.

This is the first missal I’ve ever bought and it was worth the wait. Had great difficulty with it on Sunday 1st Dec tho’ as I couldn’t find the readings. After mass my priest informed me we were beginning year C. That’s why! I presumed a new missal for a new year would start at the beginning- I thought I’d bought a misprint edition 😀 All good now and will be well prepared for Mass this Sunday. A wee insert at the beginning informing what year was the first for this missal would’ve saved me embarrassment. No harm done tho’

I was excited to order my new missal. In fact I ordered two, so my wife and I could each embark on the new year with the latest version. The introduction to the missal talks about the treasured "old family missal". This is a sentiment with which I strongly appreciate, since I will now reluctantly have to stop using my late father's missal, as it is now out of date. My initial impression is that it is a good sized book which sits comfortably in the hand. I like the marked pages for the order of the mass laid out on the middle of the book with Red edged pages. I also like the font that has been used, as it is easy to read. However, there are two big negatives which will spoil my use of this book. The paper is of low quality, so that the print of the previous page can be seen through the current page. Also, the low quality paper means that the pages will easily tear. The second negative point is the very narrow margins used. On the outside these are 6.5 mm, meaning that ones thumb or finger obscure the text. The inner margin is even narrower, meaning that i have to stress the binding in order be able to see all the print. I wonder if this book has been road tested with readers at all. I realise that in order to make this book accessible to as many as possible, costs have to be kept down, but I fear that accessibility will be limited by the unreadability of the book for many. Part of me thinks that perhaps this book is not made to last very long, since we seem to get a new edition of the translation every ten years or so. Perhaps this has been factored into the quality.
