    This title in the Face to Face series brings to life the fearsome warrior king of the Assyrians, so prominent in the Old Testament. Records of his doings have been found by archaeologists in the ruins of his city of Nineveh in present day Iraq. Written at the behest of Sennacherib they tell in detail his version of events and they describe the horrendous cruelty of his campaigns. These inscriptions on stone also tell of his civil engineering accomplishments and his seeking out sources of different materials such as wood and precious stones to enhance his kingdom. He was a truly remarkable man. Yet for all his skills he could not withstand the wrath of God. The whole story is told in detail in the Old Testament Books of Isaiah and 2 Kings among others. Clive Anderson repeatedly refers the reader to the New Testament so that we can see God’s purpose being worked out. After the ignominious withdrawal of Sennacherib’s forces from Jerusalem he continued his aggressive campaigns elsewhere, he had learnt nothing. To get the most out of this book the suggestions for further study and the points to think about/discuss need to be pursued.
