    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Thurman grew up as a man of colour in racially divided America, studying theology, entering the Baptist pastorate. Spirituality is his theme, but "a man and his black skin must face the timeless issues of the Spirit together", and he was an important bridge between Gandhi and Martin Luther King. The interests in spirituality, racial harmony and an international perspective build into a liberal, affirming theology, and it is easy to see he why became one of the best known preachers in the States. He remains barely known on this side of the Atlantic, and this book combines comments and extracts to provide a helpful introduction, though I was sometimes frustrated at not being able to read Thurman's own words at greater length. Probably a book for the library rather than your personal bookshelf, but well worth looking at.
