Melvyn Bragg in The Adventure of English claims that William Tyndale wrote "the most influential book there has ever been in the history of language, English or any other." That is not too extravagant to describe the significance of Tyndale's translation into English of the whole of the New Testament and much of the Old from the original Greek and Hebrew. Tyndale is undoubtedly one of the greatest Englishmen ever, and all who speak this language owe him a great debt.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This is a useful and well documented travel guide which follows the life and career of William Tyndale, thought by many to be England’s greatest Bible Translator. Born in Gloucestershire in the early 1490’s, his subsequent travels to Oxford, Cambridge and London are documented with photographs and travel information on his activities within each of the sites given. Forced to leave England for the Continent, Tyndale’s travels throughout the Low Countries and Germany together with his subsequent execution by burning at the stake in 1536 are also covered. The book has over 150 colour illustrations, together with details of places to visit, contacts and websites, maps and local service information. This is a travel guide but it also offers a brief history of Tyndale, his life and times and importantly his ideas and spiritual views.
