British missionaries David and Shirley Donovan were running a health centre in Nigeria when a pounding on their bedroom door tipped their lives upside down.

Threatened at gunpoint, held hostage and ransomed for a billion naira, they tell of the grace that allowed them to witness to their kidnappers in the midst of the chilling and disturbing realisation of what man is capable of.

I was introduced to this book by a friend at church. She had remembered Dr Donovan used to be my GP and thought I might be interested. She was right! I have now recommended it to my Mum and intend to encourage others to read it. What a terrifying experience! Several passages written by Mrs Donovan were written thoughtfully and with great spiritual insight, which I found helpful. We cannot always explain why things happen the way they do and I was left with an overriding sense of God's wonderful sovereignty. Well worth reading.

Amazing story but you cannot read it without being challenged by their surrender to being wholly devoted to God and his will and purposes for them
