A newly updated version of Sarah De Carvalho's bestselling missionary biography, "The Street Children of Brazil."

In "The Street Children of Brazil," Sarah De Carvalho shares her adventures of leaving the world she knew - working in film and TV promotion - to join a missionary organisation in Brazil. As a missionary in Brazil, Sarah met children from the age of seven who lived on the streets and were involved in taking drugs. These children had been forced into stealing for a living and had become part of a gang warfare. The book tells the remarkable true story of Sarah's rewarding child mission. Sarah brought faith and hope to the children who she helped, and this will inspire and change the heart of every reader.

This updated book takes account of the mission to Brazil fifteen years after it took place. Sarah De Carvalho celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the 'Happy Child Mission' and reflects on the work God has done by revisiting some of the children she worked with.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Sarah Jarman led a very comfortable life. She was a successful T.V. producer working on such shows as Top of the Pops, The Late, Late Breakfast Show and travelling the world with stars like Noel Edmunds when producing shows like Christmas Morning in Australia. She had a supporting family and a very comfortable living but following a failed relationship she became depressed and looked for something that would give her satisfaction. A chance visit to Holy Trinity Church, behind The Brompton Oratory, changed her life and led her to carry the Gospel to Brazil in the early 1990’s. What she found there on the streets of Rio de Janeiro and other cities horrified her and she gave up everything to provide support, help and hope to the many children who lived on the street, taking drugs, stealing to survive and vulnerable to prostitution. Conditions were appalling and the crime and poverty meant that the children had no chance of education, very little food and only the rule of the gangs providing any form of structure. Into this scene Sarah devoted her life, and as she believed, with God’s help and guidance was able to provide homes, education, shelter and decent accommodation to many. This edition of the book , first published in 1996 and now updated, brings the story of the many children helped by Sarah in the early days, up to date, showing them now living fulfilling and worthwhile lives. Their stories and Sarah’s are told in graphic fashion and provide an inspiring and readable account of a young woman determined to follow the example of the Good Samaritan and help those from a different culture who have needed her support. www.happychild.org
