    To write a book for young adults is a tricky endeavour; to write one about a saint, and a saint of the fourth century is brave indeed. St Macrina the Elder is a saintly grandmother. Her grandchildren, Macrina the younger, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa and Peter of Sebaste will be known to some, and the theme of holiness emerging from hardship and crisis is an inspiring one. This imaginative tale of persecution brings alive one of the formative centuries of the Christian era, and if it helps to show why Christians owe so much to the fourth century so much the better.
