Holding On and Letting Go is a richly textured volume by Chris Leonard presenting real-life stories which paint a picture of 'God with us' in a very real way through the ups and downs of life.

Woven through with Bible reflections and prayers, Holding On and Letting Go offers both comfort and encouragement to those of us struggling to believe in God’s intimate concern in - and glorious purposes for - our own seemingly ‘ordinary’ lives.

Chris Leonard tutors on creative-writing courses. She is the author of many books, including Waiting: Reflections, Stories, Prayers, which is also published by SPCK.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Jesus was walking in Jerusalem and was near the Pool of Shiloh. He started talking to a man paralysed from birth. During this conversation Jesus asked a question that on the face of it appears ridiculous “Do you want to be healed?” We don’t like too much change, or change that shakes things and unsettles us. Sometimes, like the man at the Pool of Shiloh, we say we want change but deep down we are comfortable where we are thank you very much. We hold on when we should be letting go. As a counsellor and someone involved with the healing ministry I have seen situations where people have refused to let a dying person go and still pray for their physical healing on earth when it is time for them to go to be with their Lord. If we are experts at not letting go of what we should, we are also experts at letting the wrong things go. We let time rush by never taking the time to “stop and stare” missing, as one person put it “missing the burning bush because we are too busy mowing the lawn.” In Holding On and Letting Go, Christ Leonard uses real stories accompanied by reflections and poems to challenge us to seek God as to what to keep and what to give up remembering as Solomon prayed “all things come from you, and of your own do we give you”. While this is not a Lent book, people will find inspiration to seek God at a deeper level during this season, as will those looking for illustrations for funerals, the unemployed and all those who have found themselves having to give things up.
