Gaze on him . . . Consider him . . . Contemplate him . . .

As you desire to imitate him.

In Gazing on the Gospels, this advice from St Clare of Assisi is the key to unlocking the door to the heart of Jesus’ teaching. Her words provide a pattern of meditation that brings alive the Gospel reading for every Sunday in Year C of the Revised Common Lectionary.

These short reflections will engage your imagination, mind and heart. Each one concludes with a brief prayer that focuses on helping you to imitate Christ in your everyday life.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This delightful book contains a meditation for each Sunday of Lectionary Year C, and goes alongside poet, church member, and Companion of the Society of St. Francis Judith Dimond’s matching volumes on Years A and B. Most of the Sunday reflections are based on Luke’s Gospel (with that Gospel’s ‘great theme of reversal, and the challenge to our security and complacency’), and each one is built very helpfully on the pattern set by the ‘wise words’ of St. Clare of Assisi: “Gaze on Him, consider Him, contemplate Him, as you desire to imitate Him.” Following Dimond’s sound, practical guidelines, we shall find all our senses drawn into our reading of the Gospel passages, constantly making connections with our life and the world around us and undoubtedly deepening our relationship with Jesus. Each reflection ends with a prayer, focusing on our desire to imitate the Lord. Using this book may help us to become part of the great ‘reversal’ highlighted in Luke’s Gospel from the ‘distorted and corrupt values of this world’ into a ‘just and sharing society’, where we discover a humanity which ‘shines with delight in God’s glory.’ I heartily recommend this book, to warm your response to words you hear in church Sunday by Sunday.
