‘This is the story of an adventure that happened in Narnia and Calormen and the lands between, in the Golden Age when Peter was High King in Narnia and his brother and his two sisters were King and Queens under him.’ So starts this third book of the Chronicles of Narnia originally published in 1954 and still giving great pleasure so many years later. Shasta thinks he is the son of an uncouth Calormen fisherman, and when he hears the fisherman arranging to sell him to an unexpected visitor, he finds that the visitor’s horse is a kidnapped Talking Horse from Narnia and the two of them run away together and meet up with another runaway, a young girl running away from a threatened forced marriage. There are many twists and turns to this story, and it will be no surprise that Narnia and its Royals play a very significant part.
