This series continues on 20 years after the Love Comes Softly series, and focuses on Virgina, the granddaughter of Marty and Clark. When we meet her, Virginia is 14 and is friends with wayward Jenny. Virginia struggles between her Christian upbringing and her desire to be Jenny's best friend. A terrible tragedy means Virginia chooses God over her desire to join the crowd. For anyone who loved the Love Comes Softly series, these books are a must! And for anyone who hasn't read the series, read them first!

There are four titles in the Prairie Legacy series, originally published in 1997, ’98, ’99 and 2000, now reprinted with new covers and each priced at £8.99. It was a real treat to be able to read all four in quick succession, getting thoroughly absorbed in the continuing story and involved with the characters. In The Tender Years Virginia is a young girl growing up in a big and loving family, struggling with her desire to join with the ‘in’ crowd at school, without getting into trouble at home. Jenny is a newcomer to her school and the leader of a group of youngsters who follow her leadership into all sorts of escapades. Virginia knows these are wrong and even dangerous but longs to be part of Jenny’s circle. In A Searching Heart Virginia’s family are all older and moving on with their lives. Jenny is still a major influence on Virginia, though it continues to be a love/hate relationship and when they leave school, Virginia opts to stay at home and help her poorly sister, while Jenny goes off to college where she continues her wild lifestyle until she needs Virginia yet again. A Quiet Strength finds Virginia happily married and still Jenny has the power to enter her life and change it until in Like Gold Refined it is Jenny who again puts Virginia and her family through an ordeal. There are many other strands to these stories, there are tragedies and joys as in many normal lives, but Janette Oke has a way of writing that makes you read on and on, and in my case from book to book in one hugely enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
