Against Shannon's wishes, love stakes its claim in her heart. Will she discover treasure or treachery?
When Shannon Adair accompanies her minister father to the western gold rush town of Grand Coeur, she's certain she'll never be happy away from her beloved Virginia, even though the South is still gripped in civil war.
Wells Fargo driver Matthew Dubois isn't sure the lovely Shannon belongs in Idaho Territory either, but he is a desperate man. His widowed sister is dying and leaving her young son, Todd, in his care. Matthew wants to return to driving coach for the express company soon — so he'll have to find a wife to look after the boy when he's away.
Shannon is determined not to lose her heart to a man who is neither a Southerner nor a gentleman. But love stakes its claim. Now, will her heart survive learning the truth behind the courtship?

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Another light and enjoyable read telling of life in the gold rush town of Grand Coeur in the mid nineteenth century. Shannon’s father, has felt a strong call to leave war torn Virginia and his wealthy lifestyle, to come as minister at the church in this ‘back of beyond’ place, as Shannon sees it. She respects her father’s decision, but does not have to like it. Their money came from her mother’s inheritance, and she had enjoyed a very pleasant and privileged upbringing in a happy family until her mother’s death. On arrival in Grand Coeur she is horrified at what she sees around her, considers the stage coach driver who had brought them to this place as uncouth and definitely below her notice – little does she know what is in store for her. This is a story of a brother caring for a widowed and sick sister and her child, of tensions arising from the not so distant civil war, of racial prejudice, and faith. Of course Shannon ends up marrying the Wells Fargo driver, you can guess that from the beginning, but the story is absorbing and convoluted before we reach that point.
