Coming from an American Protestant/Evangelical background, this useful book is aimed at Christians, and Christian concerns with their own situation in relation to oppression by spiritual forces (i.e. it is not primarily concerned with Christian deliverance ministry to those outside/beyond Christian faith). However, it is not devoid of the important insight (vital for ministry directed “outside”, of course) that removed demonic influences have to be replaced with strong, committed Christian faith. Not being from the background of any Episcopalian Christianity, it does not discuss the question of the deliverance minister’s authority. Beginning with the (usual) account of deliverances in the New Testament, the book moves on to the question of recognising, or perceiving, demonic attack. There is much spiritual wisdom and insight, and the book has an appendix of quotations and stories from Early Church and Medieval/Early Modern experience – something not otherwise easily found.
