Nothing can steal peace and joy and undermine the very foundation of someone's life like losing a child. It is devastating on a level that most of us can't imagine. Written after the loss of the author's own child, "Surviving the Loss of a Child" offers encouragement and hope to those who may think they will never be able to live fully after such tragedy. Bereaved parents, as well as friends, counsellors, pastors, and caregivers, will find this book a source of comfort and discover coping mechanisms as they move through their grief. Revised and updated, it has short chapters that are easy to take in, perfect for people going through this difficult time.

    The Good Book Stall

This book sensitively covers the major questions and emotions that uniquely belong to the bereavement process when a child dies as well as those that are common to every loss of a loved one. Of particular note is the chapter on Feuding Partners which is often overlooked in Christian circles, covering the different ways a husband and wife may react to the loss of a child and acknowledges the published statistics that 90% of couples experience serious marital problems after such an event. The whole book is full of helpful insights and pastoral gems drawing on Brown’s own experiences and research into the grief of others. I thoroughly recommend it.

There is solid advice for friends and family on how to help. Ms Brown?s comments on how children who were friends and siblings of the deceased child will be affected are right on the nose. Another review said: ?After the death of her wonderful daughter, my sister read the book Sunrise Tomorrow. She urged me to read it as well. It was a beautiful book and extremely beneficial in helping my sister, brother-in-law and nephew through this awful time in their lives, as well as helping me through my own grief.?

I read this book shortly after my nine-year-old son was killed in an accident. I was inspired to hear that yes, you can be happy again after the loss of one as special as your own child
