Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver brought his mini-series, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, to Huntington, West Virginia, “the fattest city in America.” But long before the small town was on the chef’s radar, one pastor had already begun to pray for Huntington’s spiritual and physical transformation. 'Winning the Food Fight' is pastor Steve Willis’ insider look at the divine timing of Jamie Oliver’s visit and a backstage pass to the events that are changing the heart and health of an all- American city. Readers will encounter the stories of real people who have made the connection between spiritual wellness and physical health, and be inspired to begin their own journey toward God-honouring transformation using Pastor Steve’s practical, biblical plan.

Steve Willis is the pastor of a church in, Huntington, West Virginia. This small town, and the surrounding area became notorious in the States because in 2008 the Center for Disease Control issued a report pinpointing the area as the unhealthiest in the nation. Jamie Oliver became involved in the story and made a mini-series for TV called Food Revolution, teaching people about nutrition, with a focus on helping cooks in schools to prepare healthier meals. Steve became closely involved because he was aware that the obesity problem which was rampant in the area was right there in his church. He says in the preface, 'I wrote Winning the Food Fight because I am tired of watching people die before their time. I am tired of seeing too many young families weighed down by the mental, spiritual, emotional and physical burden of poor eating habits.' Of course Steve writes very much from an American perspective, but it is easily translated into other cultures, particularly the British one where we struggle with many of the same issues. It is a book that well repays reading carefully. It will challenge you at many levels, and topics covered include : family nutrition and mealtimes, the truth about fast food, fasting, community gardens and a Biblical plan for change. Reading it has already helped me make some changes in my own lifestyle.
