    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This is a book to be read by women who want to be pillars of inspiration for others. It is not only for women – men will also understand more fully the importance of both sexes in building Jesus’ church. The text is a trip through history, pointing out heroines and martyrs from the early church, the Reformation the UK and in Europe. It’s very well-researched and rather academic – strictly not for those looking for a fun beach novel, but it’s very rewarding and I will certainly keep my copy close by, and find inspiration from the first page. I want to point out, though, that Catholics should also beware, because the author is biased towards Protestantism, despite an early reverence of Mary, Jesus’ mother. I found the author’s knowledge of her periods of history fascinating, especially a useful if somewhat gruesome table giving descriptions of the way nineteen women were martyred for their faith. The table makes for stomach churning reading, with words like ‘torn with sharp hooks’, ‘gored to death by a bull,’ just to give the general gist. After starting with martyrs, the author moves onto saints, queens, puritan women in the Reformation, and there is even a part on Salem Witches. In short, I would recommend this read to any girl looking for Christ and wanting to know how to devote herself to her Saviour.
