There is hope after life falls apart. A single phone call can change your life:

- There's been an accident.
- You have cancer.
- The company's downsizing.
- Your spouse wants out.

All of a sudden everything spins out of control. At some point, we've all felt painful loss, bitter disappointment, embarrassing failure, unthinkable betrayal, and the seeming randomness of suffering. Some of us have faced death. Sometimes it all happens at once. And we have quietly wondered (or maybe even screamed), "Why is this happening to me? Where is God in all of this?"

The answer may surprise you.

With sincere sympathy and ready encouragement, Bruce W. Martin takes you through a grieving process that will help you reconcile your deep suffering with your beliefs about God. A unique and compassionate take on the age-old question of suffering, this book is for anyone who has experienced life-shattering pain.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

The human heart aches for something to hope for. For without it, most of us would wither and die. Yet withal God is the only one who can make the valley of trouble a door of hope. Bruce Martin offers a thought-provoking and reassuring guide to that age old interrogative, "Why does God allow pain and suffering?" It is obvious both from his personal reflections and Biblical observations that he has been closely acquainted with the subject and his encouragement of others through their own journey. The 'Back to Egypt' concept is richly explored in this book. Martin's engagement with our emotions and their place in the grand narrative of God is insightful and challenging. The invitation to see God in sovereign charge of the universe, rather than default to our own selfishness or survival is also piercing. Martin offers something very fresh and unique in the chapter around control and the human spirit. The struggle and trust issues raised are engaging and accompanied by a pathway of wisdom and godly confidence. As Martin himself writes;- "Perhaps the greatest miracles God works in our lives come during the worst times." This is really well written, with authentic hope beating throughout, in a conversational, theological and all-round inspiring way. I found offered some real gems that I am working into my own pattern of faith and discipleship. There is little repetition, regurgitation of clichés or dull systematic ideas. There's gutsiness, reality and faith-made-radiant through suffering. This deserves to become a classic in terms of making sense of life shattering pain. Sincere, compelling and a winsome apologetic.
