This is what some colleagues call General Dick Abel. Why? Because whether coaching football, piloting jets, delivering Vietnam prisoners of war, or serving in ministry, Dick Abel is a man who lives life full-out – totally engaged. The boy who grew up with limited means could have never imagined the life events that would shape him into the strong, wise and inspiring leader he became. Those fortunate to follow him did not just want his respect, they needed it. He gave hundreds of young people his time, his trust, and his love. At different times in his colorful career, Dick Abel was a coach, a public affairs professional for the Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a real general’s general.

With an unwavering faith in God, General Abel continues to speak at events and conferences where people are challenged and motivated to also live life to the fullest. The military veteran is a former President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served also as Director of Military Ministry for Campus Crusade for Christ. He has authored two books on leadership: The DNA of Leadership and GPS for Leaders of Excellence. This dedicated husband and patriarch of a large family that matters more to him than any of his great accomplishments, has left us an enduring, touching, and inspiring book about his life; a life truly well-lived.
