Through the famous verses of Ecclesiastes, Joan Chittister reflects on timeless themes: the purpose and value of human life, the balance of joy and sorrow, work and rest, love and loss. In meditating on the contrasting seasons of our lives, she shows how human fulfillment and true happiness come, not from getting and having more and more, but from knowing and valuing what we have. Friendship and laughter, patience and sorrow, humility and compassion, from birth through death all these are God's gifts to us, the precious moments of life itself.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Short meditations and contemplations based around the well known and much overused but under considered words found in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. For Everything A Season by Chittister is a welcome and well considered book that looks at each "Time" mentioned in the passage in a thoughtful and considered way, digging deep with a few considered words of prose on such intense subjects that dwell at the heart of being human. Each consideration is well written and opens up the verse and subject in a way that is neither everbearing or too simplistic, but in keeping with the tone of Ecclesiastes is honest and forthright. The subjects are considered in the light of human nature, and in a contemporary context, dealing with day to day issues. This is a beautiful stand alone book for quiet self contemplation but would also make the basis of a wonderful series of group studies (though no questions are provided) should people want to consider together how they encounter the various times of life.
