Gilgal is where the reproach of Egypt is rolled away!
Egypt, The Wilderness and Canaan: the three places of Israel's journey correspond to three phases in our spiritual experience. And where we are determine what we will experience. The people of Israel spent 430 years in Egypt, after which they crossed the Red Sea and spent 40 years in The Wilderness. Then they crossed the Jordan River to a place called Gilgal, just inside the land of Canaan. Not only will God deliver us from Egypt, but He will bring us out of The Wilderness and into our Canaan. At Gilgal, the reproach of Egypt will be rolled away and we will be able to serve God and give Him joy this side of heaven.
At Gilgal, what is important is the Person in charge: Joshua said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?" So He said, "No, but as Commander of the Army of the Lord I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?" (Joshua 5:13-14) This is the whole point of Gilgal. It's where the believer surrenders and becomes someone God can count on. Don't worry about the enemy. Just make sure you keep the Captain of the Lord's Army in your sight, and "Whatever He says to you, do it" (John 2:5) and you too will be victorious in Christ.
