Despite the often-repeated rejection of the body beautiful culture, the concept of the ideal sexy body still dominates fashion, advertising - and our thinking. Success, status and sex appeal are all interwoven. The church has not helped by giving negative messages about bodies in general. Sheila Bridge argues that this is both dangerous to our well-being and contrary to the central Christian teaching of our acceptance in Christ. She shows how we can break bad habits of body and mind, make the most of our corporeal selves and enjoy being the way God made us. As we learn to love our bodies we learn to love ourselves.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

This may not be a book you would normally pick up and initially I thought it would have a limited appeal, but it is a well written and honest look at how women view themselves. I have to say it is more directed to the female market though some men could learn a thing or two. The book is light hearted and has a humorous approach but a serious heart. Many women have yet to realise how wonderful they are, especially with the pressures of today and the undue demands placed on us by advertising and the media, The book has a wide range of advice on topics such as dress, make up, fitness and diet. Sheila Bridge reminds us that unless we are happy with what is inside and clear up all the self loathing we really can do nothing about the outside if in fact we actually need to. Though the book has clear Christian principles it has a message and approach that would also appeal to non Christians. Though you may not buy this for yourself there could well be someone you know who needs to hear that they are beautiful and loved and this is a good start for them.
