Jesus shed His precious blood for us and with it He entered into a New Covenant on our behalf with the Father, a Covenant that ensured that the wrath of God that was against us was taken away. Our sins were forgiven and we were restored to the original relationship we had with the Father before the calamitous fall in the garden that left us depraved before God. This new-found status which applies only to those who believe in the Son has given us hope where there was none, and it has brought us privileges that we would never have been able to access. As a matter of fact, we have been given the authority to be called sons and daughters of God because of this great opening Jesus made possible. Thus, we can relate with the God that created the whole universe as His children. We can call on Him anytime, anywhere, any day and He answers us. He said it several times that we should call on Him in our troubles and He will deliver us from all our distresses.I know it will be difficult to meet any believer alive today who doesn't have a story of God's supernatural deliverance to tell. God is good and He remains faithful. Though the enemy works so hard to challenge His faithfulness in our lives, we will do ourselves a lot of good by just making up our minds to believe in our God.As believers we have some expectations. Most times we feel entitled to them. We like to see ourselves as different from the rest of humanity who have not committed to going all the way with God, so each time these expectations are not met, at least by our estimation, we recoil and rush to conclusions in a hurry. When we rush into conclusions about God without the benefit of seeking and coming to terms with His whole counsel on the issue at stake, we run the risk of shooting ourselves in the foot. We risk pulling up far short of our destination with God which will ultimately lead to regrets either here or on the other side of eternity.I want us to remember James 1:2-4, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."No matter how we try in our generation to water down the standard, it has not changed and it never will. If indeed we want to be perfect and complete, lacking nothing in our walk of faith, then we must not only count it all joy when we enter into trials or face the storms of life but we must learn to let God direct us through them. Jesus is ever ready to navigate our storms with us as He did recently with me. He led me and together we defeated the powers that came to eat me up. In the process the Lord laid some critical thoughts in my heart, these were humbling to say the least. The first thought that came to me which is captured in the first chapter of this book is that in Him is peace and every one in distress can embrace His peace no matter how terrible the situation may be. In chapters two and three, He stressed the need to be of good cheer and to fully believe that He is in the storm with us. He left a mark of caution in the fourth chapter when He asked, "Where is your faith?" In the fifth chapter, He left a timely reminder that He remains our Shepherd irrespective of our experience. The Lord encouraged me in chapters six and eight to reason together with my brothers and sisters and to explore His dealings with humanity with special focus on the experience of the righteous and the wicked. Finally, He reassured me in chapter seven that no matter how it tarries, joy will surely come in the morning.
