If like me, your head is whirling with concerns in your own life, in your family’s lives, in persecution of Christians worldwide, etc. etc. then a book like this which helps us to concentrate on one theme at time is a great gift. Ruth Etchells understands this, as shown in the words of her Introduction. For each of a month–full of days, she has chosen a prayer, for the morning and then for the evening, from ancient and modern authors, followed by her own very personal prayers on the same theme. If this helps to bring discipline to our prayer lives it will have achieved much, but my gut instinct is that this book has done, and will do much more: it will free many of us from our feeling of inadequacy by giving us words to pray that we were unable to find for ourselves, thus bring us closer to the Father.
