'In the fast-paced world in which we now live, we need simple, beautiful places like labyrinths that draw us in by the attraction of their pattern to slow ourselves down, still the busy mind and connect us again with our deep inner resources.' This full-colour book offers a unique insight into labyrinths in the UK and wider, combined with Di's own stunning photography. It begins with a potted history of the labyrinth and hints for walking one, shares personal reflections and stories from the labyrinth and explores the variety of settings in which labyrinths are now to be found. It includes a section on how to create your own labyrinth and lead your own labyrinth walk. Di Williams is an Anglican priest, adult educator, spiritual accompanier, professional bodywork practitioner, writer and the first Labyrinth Master Teacher in the UK. One of the gifts she brings to her work is a deep appreciation of physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual connection. She was awarded the MBE in 2008 for Services to Higher Education for her leading work in developing personal and spiritual support for those of all faiths and none. She is the creator of the beautiful Edinburgh Labyrinth.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Not the usual sort of book to find in the ‘Devotional’ category of our site, but although not written as a solely devotional book, the whole subject has a devotional aspect. A Labyrinth is not a maze. Not what you find advertised in a maize field during the summer. A maze has dead ends and seeks to confuse, a labyrinth has one path which although it may have many twists and turns, leads steadily onwards to the centre. Di Williams, an Anglican priest, has become an expert in the field having been captivated by the first labyrinth she came across. It fulfilled a deep seated need in caring for her ‘whole self, body, mind and spirit.’ She discovered that labyrinths are an ancient concept: they have been found in southern Europe and North Africa dating from as early as 2000 BCE. They are divided into four distinctive designs, Classical, Roman, Medieval and Contemporary. Obviously there is much more to this subject than most of us will have imagined. The layout of the book, with its lovely photographs and quotations enables the book to be used as a devotional aid, but equally, the text that tells the story of labyrinths and how they can be used is fascinating. They have mushroomed in the UK in latter years, and descriptions of how they have been built were equally interesting to read.
