John Pritchard encourages British Christians to bridge the sacred-secular divide in his latest book – ‘Living Faithfully’.

Sunday morning teaching and church attitude often encourages us to deepen our relationship with God and become more and more engulfed in church related activities. John wants to reserves this over-heard message and promotes an outward looking faith living their faith in the world as much as at church.

John Pritchard – everyone’s favourite Bishop – uses gripping story-telling, bible readings, thoughtful questions, insightful prayer and light-hearted humour to carry his important message. If there’s one book Christians should read this year, it’s ‘Living Faithfully’.

“This is a very good book by a very exceptional leader… I am very glad to have read Living Faithfully.” – Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury.

The faith we proclaim on Sunday is just as relevant to the rest of the week, but contemporary British Christianity is failing to remove the sacred - secular divide. Too often the teaching and support we get from church is about deepening our personal commitment to Christ and getting us more involved in church activities, rather than enabling us to live out our faith at work and in the world. We need to close the gap between sacred and secular, and that's what this book aims to help us do. Each chapter identifies an issue, explores how we might respond and encourages us - through stories, humour, quotes, Scripture, questions and prayer - to seek to make a difference.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

The absence of whole-life discipleship remains one of the vulnerabilities of the church in western Europe today. Sunday, Monday and the rest of our lives need to join up. We are more than rota possibilities, warm fellowship and good for monetary contributions. Practicalities, theology, Bible, narrative, prayer and quotations all fill this title with an energy and faithfulness to challenge all readers. This would be particularly helpful for a young Christian as it offers so much breadth, insight and wisdom. Bishop John is brilliantly practical and faithful in his trademark writing style. God is re-centred as the purpose, glory and Lord of all in this. Pritchard stitches together the big invitation of God, alongside life's failings, hopes, truth and tragedy. The early section on living gracefully is a particular favourite for me: inviting that we "stay close to the grace-giver". The resources that are at the close of each chapter are roomy, provocative and add so much to each theme. Bishop John makes a compelling case for closing the gap between the sacred and the secular. This is a moving multi-dimensional approach to following Jesus with greater commitment, grit and grace. This is a great SPCK production in the design detail, format and completed product. This is earthed, real and yet full of godly wisdom. It's easy reading but all about challenging living!
