The author’s books are always worth reading as they handle some up to date and relevant topics; this book is no exception. Today’s society is in a state of confusion about the basis of morality. Christianity, and the approach of Christianity, it seems are rejected as worthless by society and there are very few secular rules that still apply to our actions. The author reminds us, who have a Christian belief, to reconsider what we are and the beliefs that we hold and to re-enchant ourselves with the teaching of Christ and his followers. He considers this in the four great drivers of human conduct – sex, money, power and fame drawing on biblical wisdom and the sometimes, radical teaching of Jesus. All our decisions, whether personal or national or international, are based on our moral conduct. Richard Harries reminds us quite forcibly that we must reconsider our thoughts and actions.
Shortlisted for the Michael Ramsey prize for Theological Writing 2011.
