The experience of trauma, in one form or another, is common yet potentially devastating. Such experiences and their effects are often misunderstood, minimized, discredited, or even disparaged, in large part due to widespread cultural bias and denial. This creates roadblocks to adaptation and healing for survivors, when they already must face a journey in the aftermath that is daunting at best.
Spirituality, spiritual nurturing, and participation in mutually supportive faith community are powerful in their abilities to contribute to the healing process. The life and ministry of Jesus was full of healing messages and miracles. He modeled for us the amazing truth and grace of faith and God's love. The Gospel depicts miracles of healing, impossible among humankind, yet Jesus brought the gift of divine love into our world and taught us how it can become our reality - a gift that is truly accessible to those who seek.
These reflections are written for trauma survivors who are seeking spiritual nurturing and growth as sources of direction and hope. This book is intended to complement rather than replace professional services. The reflections are written by a retired professional in educational psychology who is personally dedicated to faith, and who works to navigate the road from trauma to wholeness along with so many others - a voice from the pew rather than the pulpit.
On the wings of God's love, we can overcome darkness. Our spirits soar above the shadows of our troubled lives and world.
