Temptation is something we all ave to deal with, its a fact of life and by going through this book, I found that there are ways to resist it, even though we are certain to fail again and again. Thoughtful anecdotes, real life stories, it highlights the way that we are not alone in doing what we do. It happened to jesus, and to be sinfree is to resist temptation, just like Jesus himself. The book has clearly set out chapters, on how we are all tempted and tested, and useful reflection times and, if you have the time, websites outlined on how we can deal with the greatest tests of our lifes.

Bishop Paul Butler tackles the issue of temptation in a refreshingly direct way. ‘There is nothing wrong with experiencing temptation. Temptation is a part of life’ and we all know it is something we wrestle with. He is personally honest about some of the times he has failed to live up to the ideal and through these incidents (many of which we can all probably identify with) he makes suggestions as to why and how we get into difficulties. Throughout the book he continually looks at the life of Jesus, along with other scriptures, and by having these as our bedrock, he describes ways in which we can not only challenge ourselves but also make positive choices which lead to changes within. This is not a guilt-inducing self-help manual but a constructive and positive read with helpful questions and reflections at the end of each chapter. It is also worth spending time on the web sourcing his suggested pictures which are a great aid in meditation. I would encourage anyone to read this book but to get the most from it the reader has to be prepared to be personally honest with him/herself and to be honest before God.
