Unlike many 'singles' books which either focus on preparing for marriage or how you can 'cope' if you never marry, this book looks at what it means to live a single Christian life. The author takes into account all types of singles - those who long for marriage, those who are happy to stay single for now, those who feel called to lifelong singleness and those who believe that personal circumstances will require them to stay single. He starts with an overview of the history of singleness, looking at how the church's reaction to changes in society has affected how Christian singles are treated. He goes on to cover the various myths surrounding singleness & marriage, the problems and advantages of the single state and the temptations that Christian singles face (and at long last, we have an author who realises singles face temptations other than sex!) This is probably the best, most positive and most wide-ranging overview of Christian singleness I have encountered. It should be required reading for every church leader and probably for every Christian single too. And DEFINITELY required reading for every married Christian who, on hearing that another Christian is single, says 'oh dear, we'll have to pray about that.'
