When Libby's husband Greg fails to return from a two-week canoe trip to the Canadian wilderness, the authorities soon write off his disappearance as an unhappy husband's escape from an empty marriage and unrewarding career. Their marriage might have survived if their daughter Lacey hadn't died...and if Greg hadn't been responsible. Libby enlists the aid of her wilderness savvy father-in-law and her faith-walking best friend to help her search for clues to her husband's disappearance...if for no other reason than to free her to move on. What the trio discovers in the search upends Libby's presumptions about her husband and rearranges her faith.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

As the story opens Libby’s husband is late back from a solo camping trip and she’s not sure whether he’s in genuine trouble, or has left her before she can leave him. The style captures exactly the distracted, dislocated pattern of her thoughts as she deals with family and church friends though her own faith has long since grown cold. When there is no news and the police seem half-convinced Greg has vanished on purpose, she lets her father-in-law persuade her and her best friend into retracing his steps through the Canadian wilderness in an attempt to find some clue as to what has happened to him. Out there, shorn of all props and comforts, there is no alternative but to face up to God and deal with the mess that is her life. This is an uncompromisingly true-to-life book featuring honest, un-sanitised thoughts and feelings and no contrived, neat, happy-happy ending for everyone. It is also totally compelling and as unpredictable as reality – I thought I knew what was going to happen a couple of times and was completely wrong! I hope the author goes on to write many more of the same quality. Thoroughly recommended.
