This study uses The King's Speech to explore the message of speaking up

People will find this a pressure-free way to study that Bible in a group

Based on the Oscar winning film 'The King's Speech', this is the Lent course to help you find your authentic identity and voice in Christ. 'Finding A Voice' brings together words from the Bible, the story and characters from the movie and the fears that can drive us to withdraw from everyday life.

Starting with sequences from the multi Oscar and BAFTA winning movie, 'Finding a Voice' explores the ways in which, like Colin Firth's 'Bertie', we too can face up and overcome our terrors to find our true and authentic self. A short introduction begins each film related Bible meditation with notes, discussion points and further Bible passages provided for reflection through the week.

Hilary Brand's imaginative approach includes suggestions for an after-Lent follow-up and full notes for leaders. Each of the five sections of the course is adaptable to private devotion or weekly group engagement.
With a compelling and popular film as its point of reference, this is the Lent resource for those who love film but might not otherwise consider a course of Lent Bible study.

    The Good Book Stall

    Average rating of0.0

Hilary Brand’s book steps out of the usual mould for a Lent Course, being based on the very popular film The King’s Speech. It sets out to explore, from a Christian perspective, those personal fears and trepidations that dog our lives and can make us at least miserable, at worst withdrawn and uncommunicative. It is designed for groups. However members will need their own copy and at £5.99 it may be considered expensive. There would also need to be a showing of the film. Each of the five sessions begins with a short ‘To start you thinking’ section that participants read prior to their meeting. The session follows. This is offered as a prescribed conversation of around 80 minutes. Within that a number of short statements are presented for discussion, each being allocated a few minutes. There is then a ‘To take it further’ as homework. The style is direct and personal; it is probably for a group who already trust each other. The aim is not just to gain confidence oneself but to be aware of and able to help those who are similarly hampered. There is a short act of commitment as a sixth session. The combination of the novelty of the subject and the direct style certainly make it worthy of consideration.
